Cranberry extract

Cranberry extract, 150mg, as it appears in Belle Balance and Femme Flora, and how its standardisation was measured.

In short

Belle Balance and Femme Flora each contain 150mg of cranberry extract — the extract itself, not just flavouring — standardised to 25.1% proanthocyanidins, the compounds cranberry extracts are measured by. That is 37.65mg per daily serving (one Belle Balance sachet, or two Femme Flora capsules), and we name the lab method behind the figure (BL-DMAC), because figures from different methods cannot be compared — worth checking on any cranberry label. Cranberry has no authorised health claim in Great Britain, so we tell you what is in it rather than what it does.

How we grade

  • AMultiple human randomised trials on this exact ingredient, at this dose and form
  • BOne human randomised trial on this exact ingredient, dose and form
  • CHuman trials exist on the substance, but not on the version we use
  • DPatent, laboratory or animal evidence only
  • ENo evidence located

Cranberry grades A. The grade is a count of human trials, not a statement of what they showed. Cranberry carries no authorised claim in Great Britain, and we make none.

1 · What cranberry extract is

Cranberry extract is not dried cranberries and it is not juice. It is a concentrated extract standardised to a stated amount of proanthocyanidins, a family of plant compounds found in cranberry. When a label says 25% proanthocyanidins it means 25% of the extract’s weight is that compound family.

2 · Why the measurement method decides the number

A proanthocyanidin figure means something only if you know how it was measured. Different methods give different numbers, and figures from different methods cannot be compared. We asked our manufacturer which method they use: BL-DMAC, which gives 25.1% proanthocyanidins for this extract.

That is the figure for the extract, not a result measured on a finished production batch. We have specified that proanthocyanidin content by BL-DMAC is reported on the certificate of analysis for every production run, and we will publish those results here whether or not they agree with the specification. The first result is in. Belle Balance lot 25102026, tested by our manufacturer in October 2026, measured 153mg of extract and 39mg of proanthocyanidins by BL-DMAC, inside the specification range of 35.6 to 45.0mg. The certificate is on our verify page. Femme Flora’s first batch result will be added here when its certificate arrives.

What we do not claim

  • Cranberry has no authorised health claim in Great Britain. We make none.
  • We do not claim cranberry does anything, in this product or any other.
  • We do not claim this product treats, prevents or reduces the risk of anything.

What we claim is the composition: 150mg of cranberry extract, standardised to 25.1% proanthocyanidins by BL-DMAC as reported by our manufacturer.

Common questions

How much cranberry extract is in Belle Balance and Femme Flora?
150mg of extract per daily serving in each product (one Belle Balance sachet, or two Femme Flora capsules), standardised to 25.1% proanthocyanidins. That delivers 37.65mg of proanthocyanidins a day. The 25.1% figure is our manufacturer's, measured by the BL-DMAC assay.
Does cranberry have an approved health claim in the UK?
No. There is no authorised health claim for cranberry or proanthocyanidins on the GB Nutrition and Health Claims Register. We make no health claim for cranberry anywhere.
Why an extract rather than juice?
A standardised extract carries a stated amount of proanthocyanidins, and it can be measured and stated on a label in a way juice content cannot.
